A study in Tarbiat Modares University showed that chitosan-modified metal-based frameworks can be used as a powerful carrier for cancer treatment.

Reza Abazari PhD. student in Chemistry, Tarbiat Modares University, said: "Anticancer drugs are often poisonous, and when the drug enters the blood circulation, in addition to destroying cancer cells, it also negatively affects normal cells. The university researcher continued to address the uses of metal-organic frameworks that he was investigating, adding that a group of these compounds, called Bio-MOF, could be good carriers in this field. he said, referring to the properties of chitosan "Chitosan has all the qualities of an ideal substance to work in the field of biomedicine, including an affordable price, availability and structure that is compatible with body tissues, which does not have toxic effects on the body,". Reza Abazari and his teammate have been able to use this carriers to extirpate MCF-7 breast cancer cells. In a way, at high concentrations, this carrier did not show any toxicity. The results of this research are published in the Inorganic Chemistry journal.
